Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathrooms can be the most neglected room in the house, but with bathroom remodeling ideas that are simple yet innovative, that can change in a flash.

Do it yourself bathroom remodeling is becoming more and more popular these days and some simple bathroom improvements can make a big difference in both the value of your home and your enjoyment of it.

So where do you start? We suggest starting at the bottom, with the floor.

Bathroom Remodel

There are many beautiful and functional flooring options available today to easily add beauty and functionality to your bathroom. A change of flooring alone can bring an older bathroom right into the 21st century.

Faucets and shower hardware are another example of areas that can be updated and make a dramatic change to the look of your bathroom, with little investment. When selecting new plumbing fixtures for your bathroom remodel, ask yourself if the design you have chosen blends in well with the rest of the room. Does the style reflect the look you are trying to achieve, for example classic or modern?

Bathroom lighting fixtures can add style to the bathroom as well as provide functional lighting. Decide where you need light and how you will use it. Will someone be applying makeup using the lighting in the bathroom, shaving or styling their hair? Make sure the lighting you choose will not add glare to the room. Wall sconces might look lovely but may not provide enough light for the way you use the room.

Another of our bathroom remodeling ideas is to coordinate the style of the lighting fixtures to the faucet and shower hardware you have chosen or already have. It doesn't have to be exact, but a mix of styles and finishes in a small room will just make your bathroom look messy and smaller.

Molding is something that can bring your do it yourself bathroom remodeling project to a new level. The simple addition of a nice floor level molding can really finish the room visually. Crown molding around the ceiling of the room is a great idea if you are creating a very elegant and polished look.

Another clever bathroom idea is to use a horizontal stripe of paint along the ceiling to simulate molding. Be careful though, as the wrong color or an uneven stripe can ruin the look of everything else you have done.

Choose paint colors carefully. Lighter colors open up the room and make it appear larger. Bolder and deeper colors can make the room appear smaller, but are often used to create drama and interest in a small room. If the room is small anyway, some people choose to just have fun and select a color they love, regardless of its size-minimizing effects.

Shower curtains are a great way to introduce a color scheme into a bathroom. In fact, if you will be using a shower curtain, a good idea may be to select one you love first and take your color cues from the curtain. Choose paint, towels and other accessories that will work well with the shower curtain. Matching curtain hooks and accessories can bring the whole look together. However, don't go overboard though with an abundance of "matchy" accessories. Too much of the same thing can just look tacky.

Give some thought to how you want your bathroom to look and function. Most importantly - Let your personality show!
