Treat Your Front Doors To A ‘Facelift’!

The front doors are the first thing about your home that family, friends and prospective homebuyers encounter on arrival.

If you are selling your home, whether or not homebuyers or visitors choose to tour all the other aspects that make your home exceptional could be determined right here.

One thing is sure - They won’t even see the first room without getting past the front entry.

So why not start there to make a lasting impression?

When you take a critical look at your front entry doors, don’t stop at just the doors themselves; review the whole surrounding area around the front entrance of your home and see if it offers a unified look.

Is paint bright and fresh, and do your trim colors coordinate with your home’s exterior?

Do accessories and front door hardware finishes complement each other? This can open a plethora of possibilities to give the front of your home a facelift to impress friends, and welcome family. Most importantly, it can generate ‘curb appeal’ in your home, which could lead to interest from prospective homebuyers who might otherwise be just passersby.

One of the best ways to brighten up the front entry of your home both day and night is with front door lights. Brass really adds a nice touch that lasts or even brushed nickel. Whatever finish you choose, just be sure that your new front door light fixtures are well sealed to avoid the early appearance of tarnish or rust.

You can also liven up the front entry area, by calling in new seasons, with an outdoor urn or even a pair. Affordable urns made out of resin have the appearance of cast iron or stone for a fraction of the price. You can put flora of the season inside them, and not worry about maintainence.

Front Entrance Doors Another touch that also has the bonus of making your home easier to locate, are some new address numbers. And here’s a tip ... when picking a style, try not to get numbers in a font too stylized, or it will be hard to read at a distance.

Speaking of distance, a number you hold in your hand in the store might seem a little big, but that’s okay - since it won’t seem that way looking at it from the street. You might even consider lighted numbers for added impact.

What about a new mailbox or door knocker?

You can still spruce up your old one this year by removing it for a nice fresh coat of paint, or polishing. The same can be said for the handle and lock assembly.

Another quick and easy way to freshen the front entry is to toss out that battered winter front door mat and start the new season off with a fresh one.

If you don’t have a front door mat then maybe some attention to that front stoop is in order. The front stoop is a relatively tiny area of your home that can contribute heavily to a favourable first impression. Since the area is relatively small and so visible, it’s a good idea not to skimp here, and go for some premium materials like slate, marble, or tile.

As for the front doors themselves, old screening tends to look dirty so clean or replace it, or consider solid pane glass outer doors.
